Removal of Tattoos in All Shades (Using a Neodymium Laser)

The removal of tattoos in all shades has become possible thanks to modern technologies. In Cyprus, I offer tattoo removal services using a neodymium laser, which allows you to get rid of unwanted skin designs faster and more effectively than traditional methods.

Advantages of the Neodymium Laser

Removal of tattoos of all colors on neodymium laser (Nd:YAG) is a modern and effective method based on selective destruction of pigment by laser radiation with different wavelengths, which allows you to work with a wide range of colors and shades.

Key advantages:

  • Multifunctionality and versatility: Thanks to interchangeable nozzles and adjustable wavelengths, the laser is suitable for removing tattoos of almost all colors and shades, as well as tattooing and pigmentation spots.
  • High efficiency: The result is noticeable after the first session, and complete removal usually requires 8–10 procedures, depending on the depth, density, and age of the tattoo.
  • Safety and minimal risk of complications: The laser acts selectively on the pigment without damaging the surrounding tissue, which reduces the risk of scarring, burns and pigmentation changes. Rehabilitation is short — usually 1–2 days.
  • Suitable for all skin phototypes: Especially the wavelength of 1064 nm is not absorbed by skin melanin, which eliminates the risk of hypopigmentation and burns if the procedure is carried out correctly.

Indications for Laser Tattoo Removal

Laser tattoo removal is suitable in the following cases:

  • Tattoos are no longer relevant.
  • Tattoos have become tiresome or hinder career advancement.

Contraindications

The procedure is not recommended in the following cases:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Herpes in the treatment area.
  • Skin diseases in the acute stage.
  • Tendency to form keloid scars.
  • Blood clotting disorders.
  • Type 1 diabetes.
  • Cancer.
  • Autoimmune diseases.
  • Mental disorders.
  • Epilepsy.
  • Use of isotretinoin less than 6 months before the procedure.
  • Use of gold salts
  • Use of topical retinoids less than 2 weeks before the procedure.
  • Use of medications that cause photosensitivity.

Equipment

I use the most effective and modern lasers:

  • Nd:YAG Nanosecond Q-switch Laser with wavelengths of 532 nm and 1064 nm for rapid removal of black, red, and orange colors.

How The Laser Works

The neodymium laser uses an alumina garnet (YAG) crystal doped with neodymium ions, which emits light at various wavelengths, the most common for tattoo removal being 1064 nm and 532 nm. The laser delivers short pulses of high power, breaking down the tattoo pigment into microparticles, which are then removed from the body by the lymphatic system.

  • Wavelength 1064 nm (infrared range) is excellent for removing dark colors: black, dark blue, brown, as well as tattoos with impurities of black and dark shades of green, red, blue. This wavelength penetrates deeply into the skin (up to 6-8 mm), destroying pigment in the dermis without damaging surrounding tissues and with minimal risk of hypo- or hyperpigmentation. It is safe for all skin phototypes.
  • The 532 nm wavelength (green spectrum) is used to remove bright and warm colors: red, yellow, pink, purple, orange, as well as blue and pastel shades. This beam is more superficial, effectively destroying pigments closer to the skin surface.

Some units can operate at intermediate wavelengths (e.g., 585 nm) to remove blue and pastel colors.

Tattoo Removal Process

Before the procedure:

  • Consultation with a doctor to assess the tattoo and skin type.
  • Avoid active tanning two weeks before the procedure.

During the procedure:

  • The average procedure duration is 2 minutes.
  • A cryo unit is used during the procedure to cool the treatment area.

After the procedure:

  • Redness subsides within 3–24 hours, and swelling decreases within 1–3 days.
  • It is recommended to periodically cool the area for the first day.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure.
  • Use sunscreen with SPF 30+.

Procedure Interval:

  • The effective interval between sessions is 6 weeks and more.
